The Secret Society to Celebrate Three and a Third Year Anniversary on Thursday, September 8th, 2011
Portland, OR, August 30, 2011 – The Secret Society Lounge, Ballroom and Recording Studio will be celebrating Three and a Third years of business on Thursday, September 8th, 2011, 5pm-midnight. The anniversary celebration, open to the public, will include free performances by two bands who have become house favorites - at 6pm, 1930s swing savants The Stolen Sweets, then at 9pm, country swing champs Pete Krebs and his Portland Playboys. The Secret Society will be offering food and drink specials throughout the night.
For the past year, The Secret Society has offered live music three to five nights a week. Starting in September, music will be free on most Friday and Saturday nights in the red velvet clad ballroom. Expect danceable vintage jazz, swing, classic soul, country and bluegrass, with happy hour food and drink specials 6pm-12am.
While a Three and a Third Year anniversary may seem arbitrary, proprietor Matt Johnson claims method to the madness. “Since we’re located in a former Masonic lodge, the number 33 holds special significance. In many orders, 33rd is the highest degree of Masonry one can achieve. In honor of the building’s past residents, we named one of our tables “33”. On opening night we sold 33 pints of beer, 33 Moscow Mules, and at the end of the night the tips counted out to $333.00. In our post-opening-night euphoria we decided that the ghosts of the former Masons approved of our venture, and in light of all of that it only makes sense to mark 3 1/3 years in business.”
The Secret Society opened June 6, 2008 in the 1907 former Masonic lodge, and quickly became a lively Portland hot spot. Proprietor Matt Johnson and staff have since garnered a solid following of classic cocktail devotees, diners and live music lovers, in addition to the ever-growing list of Portland’s best musicians, who remain devoted to The Secret Society Recording Studio. Critical praise has been offered on all fronts from a wide variety of publications, both regional and national. GQ and Saveur both selected The Secret Society as a must visit establishment for travelers to Portland. In its May 2011 issue, Portland Monthly prominently featured The Secret Society Recording Studio in a profile of Portland’s best recording studios.
The Secret Society Lounge is open Sunday-Thursday from 5pm to 12am, and Friday-Saturday from 5pm to 1am. Happy hours are Sun-Thu 5-7pm and nightly 10pm-close.
